It was a day of laughter and smiles at the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards, as a sell-out crowd of 650 made their annual pilgrimage to London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel. Viewed as the best networking event in the care sector calendar, this ‘long-lunch’ started at 11 in the morning and was still going strong past midnight, as guests made and renewed acquaintances.
World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst was the guest of honour, representing the Sporting Memories Foundation which was the beneficiary of the event’s fund-raising. This small charity promotes social interaction for people with dementia, using sporting remininscences as a trigger for group conversations. Before after Sir Geoff had presented the six awards, he was in great demand for selfies, as fans young and old queued to meet their hero.
With lunch over, the crowd left the terraces and headed up to the grandstand for three hours of important networking, interspersed with some highly competitive ski-racing and football on the arcade machines. Once again, a combination of donations and generous sponsorship meant that over £25,000 was raised for charities and this took the total raised by the Pinders to an incredible £500,000!.
